dolly

Hi could anyone give me some advice? thinking of purchasing a dolly to pull my mk1 behind my motorhome,the type that the front wheels are raised. any views on this thanks

I think the law has recently changed regarding the use of such devices, but whether or not this is the case, I personally would recommend a proper trailer for your Mini and get all its wheels of the road. It'll also make the outfit easier to reverse although I appreciate a trailer requires more room to store.

What about an A frame?
Either a couple of brackets bolted to underside of front subframe or attached to towing eyes through the front subframe mounts. Simple to make, easy to attach and wont be too heavy or take up too much space.

ive got a better idea than that......

I just been through all this ,when deciding what trailer to get i went through all the options. Even using 8.8ft smart car trailer etc. But for the money it's easier and cheaper to get one longer which is cheaper.

The thing with new smart trailers, you put smart in front trailer of it ,
it's like someone adding cooper s, Downton,speedwell, to there 1988 mini some people pay more money. Ha ha

I was at a county fair back in August and there was a couple with motorhome and they had a aframe for there mini but it was a very well made bit of kit. All folds up. Special linkage which connected to the handbrake cable just in case it comes off, nice strong fixing and bar which bolts the the subframe. this was not a home made one , it was made to fit the mini.

But is it still legal?????

Like others say get a trailer if funds can stretch and you have room to store it.

they are not legal as the brakes on the car do not meet the (very complicated) legal requirements for a trailer.

people using them will argue until they are blue in the face that they are legal to use - funny that!
