Beware of Alloy Flywheels for sale.
In a nutshell, I used to own this:-
http://s60.photobucket.com/albums/h22/m ... g&newest=1
and this:-
http://s60.photobucket.com/albums/h22/m ... kplate.jpg
The 3 spigots didn't fit properly, the backplate missing stud barely had anything to helicoil into, the puller threads were knackered, one of the backplate mountings (tension bearing) had been really badly helicoiled.
There may be one like it for sale on the internet. Note the balance drillings and CAVEAT EMPTOR. Please, do not waste your money on an expensive paperweight.
Edit:- or at least get proof that these things have been done. If not, it is a paperweight, which is why I sold it.

Re: Beware of Alloy Flywheels for sale.
Stud then 6 drillings.....and then one of the balance drillings had broken out of the side of the backplate in a nasty way.
It would appear that it's been cleaned. £148 is a lot of money for something which "may" need a load of work. It's a beautiful flywheel, but needs work, 8 port head style. .....

Re: Beware of Alloy Flywheels for sale.
The way that a lot of the old 8 port heads which turn up are beyond repair, apart from due to a ridiculous hysteria and obsession, they are patched up. In my opinion, my old flywheel had come unshipped and rattled around. I'd check it was true before I did anything with it. Lovely piece of artwork, just best left to the display case. It looked a better piece of machining than the KAD ones I've seen..... just buggered.

in some respects i agree - but the advantage of an alloy head is that it can be repaired far easier than an iron head!
this one (a genuine MOWOG one) was welded up, had the chamber recut, new seats and is back out racing - its done two hard seasons since - with no problems. its not in a trunderler either - its in a 1430 class five autograss car and gets the tits thrashed out of it!
id like to see a full race iron five port recover as well!!!!

I was thinking of the Weslake junk which has surfaced recently.
