Dropped off my 'S' wheels for powder-coating
There's an industrial coatings place right near where I work, so I dropped off my scruffy 'S' wheels at lunch today to have them powder coated. I'm having them done in a dull silver with a protective clear coating, and was pretty happy with the quote of $100.
They should be done by Monday, so I'll post the 'after' pictures when I get them back.

Only they should be OEW.
Sorry but they do look better as you have them done already.

Looking pretty decent to start with
"Get the wheels in line, Get the wheels in line with it! ..... and then slam your brakes on or we'll be in the cabin ! "

Yes, I know, but the car is red w/OEW, and I've always thought that color combo looks a bit too "cute" with OEW wheels. I've always regreted having the roof done in OEW, so if I end up keeping the car, I'll likely repaint the roof to black. Sooooooo, the color choice for the wheels was a compromise that had to look decent with both white or a black roof, so I decided on silver. If I paint the roof black, and keep the car, I'll probably have them redone in OEW when they are due for their next set of tires.scott6058 wrote:Benny

The paint you see in the picture above is just cheap, rattle-can spray paint that was done to get a feel for the overall look. The powder coating will obviously be infinitely more durable.

Hi Benny,
Looks like a sweet little S you have. Very nice.
Silver wheels were very much in favour with racing drivers in the mid '60's here in France.
Pluto on this forum has a red / black '65 S that was raced at Spa Francorchamps and that already had silver wheels back then.
Please let us see the result !
Regards,
Etienne

Most Australian Minis had silver wheels. It just looks normal to me.

Well, once again, I guess it all depends one what you're used to.

Are the red and yellow dots of any significance?

In theory, the red dot corresponds with the highest spot on the tyre and the yellow spot with the lightest point. In an ideal world you'd line the yellow spot up with the valve stem on the wheel to help with the balancing, but the effect is minimal.36inter wrote:Are the red and yellow dots of any significance?

Re: Dropped off my 'S' wheels for powder-coating
That's the explanation I've heard before. I was pleasantly surprised how little weight needed to be added to balance the wheels, so as Graeme says, I don't think it has a significant impact.GraemeC wrote: In theory, the red dot corresponds with the highest spot on the tyre and the yellow spot with the lightest point. Thanks Graeme, I thought one of the dots would be weight related but as all of the dots are pretty randomly located I was unsure.
