I am pretty sure that the shell is a hydrolastic one, which means that the car has been reshelled at some point...

It furthermore has a 12G940 head instead of an AEG163 and the air filter box is also wrong ... (obviously the interior is wrong as well). I wonder how much it will fetch.

Re: 1071cc "BARN FIND"
Lads I'm missing the hydro link ? This is what I see. No hydro pipe bracket in engine bay. Early petrol tank. Two bold seat belt holes in floor, early seat brackets, early flywheel housing, green on floor and behind dash.
I might have a
face when you guys point me to the hydro link LOL.

Isn't that a cut pipe from the displacer sticking up on the right hand side of the engine shot?

No it's the fuel line.
If you look at the bracket that holds the fuel pipe it a dry bracket with single hole. A wet bracket holds both the fuel pipe and the hydro pipe and steps down the bulkhead about an inch!

It does look genuine as you say Nev, it was just (what looks like) a reinforcement box in front of the O/S rear wheel arch that threw me.

Yes I see what you are saying about the reinforcing box, that's strange!
A photo of the sun visors would clear it up!

It looks like there might be an interior light switch in the A post too (shows up more on the first eBay ad) and he's already on for a profit

Honestly him and Cotswold classics must think people were are daft... Haha, to be fair though, if people are stupid enough not to do there research and they have there pants down then it's there own fault.. I also saw it last week which Pete shows above and thought it looked a good project and crazy to say was cheap enough.. Its at that kinda price that who ever was selling it knew what it was, so i doubt some old chap has been diddled which i sometimes worry about when folk like these end up with cars like these to sell, as they seem to be able to find them..
I'd say it's being run up..
Also, am i correct in thinking they are the wrong wheels. Or were they factory option to have them in 4.5j? As they look to wide to me???

Yep, the hydro pipe bracket in the engine bay is not a safe clue but the reinforcement in the boot is.Pete wrote:It does look genuine as you say Nev, it was just (what looks like) a reinforcement box in front of the O/S rear wheel arch that threw me.

Yeh but it's on dry suspension?? I didn't think you could use dry suspension on wet subframes?.
Or do you mean it's a 67-ish shell?

Re: 1071cc "BARN FIND"
You can use dry subframes on a hydro shell and with somewhat extensive mods: dry suspension on a hydro subframe.
From what I can see on the pictures, I would think that the shell is early 1966.
Isn't anybody else wondering why there is no clear picture of the speedo (which however does look pre sept 64 from the back)?
And yes, there were 4.5j factory option rims. These were the 'real' factory option ones compared to the reverse 4.5j's.

Re: 1071cc "BARN FIND"
Go through his feedback.
He seems to find and sell a lot of "barn find" cars. I can count 12 listings he has had with barn find in the heading , But also noticed that his early listings had a lot of "dry stored" then changed to barn find which seems to have more selling power
That's just alarm bells ringing or he has a big tardis barn.

Ok so it's a mk1 shell sometime between sept 64 to dec 65 (early door handles)mk1coopers wrote:It looks like there might be an interior light switch in the A post too (shows up more on the first eBay ad) and he's already on for a profit
Only one sure way of knowing is to see a photo of the sun visors. Either way its not in the right shell by the looks of things. Unless someone has repaired the boot floor with a later one and drilled for courtesy door light switch

How to convert wet to dry:999 ORX wrote: Yeh but it's on dry suspension?? I didn't think you could use dry suspension on wet subframes?.
http://www.calverst.com/articles/SUS-Su ... to_dry.htm
Front Subframe
"Now, it’s entirely possible to modify the hydro front subframe to accept the rubber springs and other necessary bits and pieces. The displacer unit is seated in the tower in the same way as the cone, the difference being the locating ring's size/shape. The displacer sits inside its seating ring, the cone outside. The diameters of these differ too, the hydro being bigger, and have lugs pressed into it. To get the rubber spring to fit the hydro ‘frame, these lugs need to be bent outwards. The rubber spring then locates inside the ring. Sounds easy, eh? Achieving this is accompanied by all kinds of 'blue' air and skinned knuckles. More often than not, eventual submission and fitment of a dry ‘frame!! It’s all down to access - or lack of it (as in ‘severe’). There are ways round it, but we’re supposed to be doing this the easy way, remember? Then you need to drill holes in the tower outer ‘elbows’ to take bump stops. Use the later single stud fixing as this eases the whole drilling/fitting thing."
Rear Subframe
"Again, as with the front, the hydro rear ‘frame can be modded to take the rubber springs. Same mods, but very, very much easier. However I don’t advise this unless the Min’s used solely for normal road use, carrying two people in the front, minimal luggage, and totally standard wheels/tyres and standard ride height only. Why? Coz that curious metal cone shape on the dry type acts as a variable spring platform - progressively increasing the spring rate as more load is applied. Carrying more load than the minimal amount mentioned above will have the tyres bashing the wheel arches. Trust me in this, that’s all the explanation you’re going to get, as it’s a bit complicated (not enough room here for full dissertation)."

Unreal people fall for this stuff/poo
There has to be some bid shilling also more common these days.
The old saying is.
Let the buyer beware.
Even more so these days for small super expensive bits much less a project.
