I'm not sure what the car pictured in the ebay ad is supposed to be, but it doesn't appear to be the remains of a Trickett Minisprint - all the conversions done by him that I've seen have the bottom of the bulkhead rotodip opening pretty much flush with the top of the engine bay cross member. This car appears to be standard there.

I knew there was 1 or 2 sold off to Japan, and I remember another thread, talking about export of rare/early Mini,s to Japan,

but seller keept the UK paperwork in England, in order to built another one (or 2?) (or 3?) who knows ?

as that thread stated, will it be like stirring a Hornets nest, with a stick, if any of these cars, are imported BACK to the UK

Yup, it does go on Jens, a set of paperwork with a donor shell went for auction on Ebay a couple of months ago that on checking DVLA's website showed up as already having been exported. Previously owned by the same seller.

...more than 1 or 2 jens,.. i saw a pic of 2 beauties taken at suzuka a few months ago side by side......u look at those cars in pristine condition and wonder if any of those are ringers exported !!!....there was a mass edodus of classic minis to japan from about the late 80,s it lasted for about 20 years or so...as the values of these cars are now sky high fewer will leave our shores ill wager !!!.....mini sprints,radfords,w/p converted coopers will always command the best prices in the mini world...having said that look at the prices now of late low mileage rover coopers .... my message is keep yr classics and dont sell em unless yr desperate for the cash !!!!.....foxy52

It would be interesting to know the percentage of Sprints in Japan that are period modified cars, I suspect many of them are Marspeed / Mini Machine / Speedwell (John Adair era) / Church Green ect, certainly there are probably more Sprints now than there were back in the 60's. Going back to what's on offer (or rather what would be on offer if there was a car involved) its a interesting that it's 69 registered as Rob Walker wouldn't have been involved with sprints by then, and S&A would have been winding production down (if they were still making them) if it was a race car that was then made road legal I would have guessed that it should have been a 66 / 67 built car that had never been registered, the car then getting a new plate in 69 at first registration, which in theory might make it one of the last MK1's ever registered, if it still existed

What's sad about these odd collectors/dealers is that for every genuine interesting car they have there's another two that are completely fake that they lie through their teeth about and all those fake race and rally cars in Japan (and not just in Japan obviously !) are living proof .Don't get me wrong they know their stuff these characters otherwise all those fake race/rally cars would never have been built but then they add 50% bullshit into the pot to fill in the gaps.
You can see why all these race/rally car ringers have been built when you look at the profits involved but the farce of it all is that surely they must realise that 90% of punters interested in all this stuff pretty much know what's bull and what isn't . I'm amazed at the lengths that are gone to to create fake paperwork, dig out archive pictures etc etc but that's all that they end up with, you NEVER see the projetcs "as found" for obvious reasons.

All those cars, MC58, JAN4, GPH 1, 2 +3C, a KDK and a BOP or two etc etc (the list is a long one) were all "discovered" in the late 80's / early 90's, restored and exported (most of 'em) within only a few years back then. What are the chances ?

On the other hand I have very little sympathy for numpties who buy all this crap, it's their responsibilty at the end of the day, but the Japs by their very nature are generally very honourable and trusting and bought a whole heap of horse shit in the 90's which it seems they were, and still are (except for one well know Japanese collector !) quite happy to own. A perfect market really !

I agree with the above, but one thing is the important "before" pictures, you also need pictures during the restoration, otherwise can the finished car still be a reshell.



I did not know that JAN4 was "discovered" and exported to Japan.

The only JanSpeed "Mini" I found was the Geoff Mabbs Unipower, that now lives in Belgium.

It just so happens that I am in the market for a minisprint.

So,

After approaching the seller...who ever that may be.. for a viewing, I was told by the seller..who ever that is..that he was very busy, sick of being bothered, and I was in "being nosey?".. and in fact I was "well down the list" of potential purchasers. It seems that somebody is flying in from another Country to view the paperwork, (sorry, I mean car), with all the Hotel arrangements already in place.

In other words, I was told to #### off. No Idea why, or maybe I just asked the wrong questions. Didnt even get round to asking him,..(who ever he is), what the registration is?

Heard that 2 "identical" Works Mini,s showed up, at Beaulieu some years ago.
It ended up with the UK car had to loose its Works reg no, as the car from Finland clearly was the original one.
It had full documented history, since leaving Abingdon
