Yes courtline, one of the first budget airlines , ran out of luton airport went bust in about 1974 ,at the time i worked at the vauxhall apprentice school next to the airport,used to watch the air hosteses drive by ,one had a tweed grey mk1 s and regulation mini skirt. Ahh those were the days

I remember going to Ibiza on a Courtline Comet in the very early 1970's.
It had a salmon pink interior if I remember right.

They most certainly were!

I am so incredibly old that I have flown as a regular paying passenger on the worlds first jet powered passenger plane.

yes rich, you are right, it was only people who went on budget holidays that flew in them! fred scuttle was the chief pilot for that crowd then. ian.

thats the early type, with the square windows, wasnt that the one that broke while flying ?
something to do with metal fateque around the square windows, or something like that.

You are correct. It was the corners of the square windows that propogated cracks that were the undoing of the first comets. Or it was the Americans sabotaging the project because they didn't like little old britain having the best jet airliner in the world. You can believe whichever version you want
