Can anyone advise if Super deluxe minis had their roof painted a contrasting colour as a factory option or was this a dealer option being repainted prior to delivery?
Also, did all Morris Super deluxe's come with a chromed grille?, mine is painted old english white, matching the roof. Most that I've seen are chromed but coincidentally there is another surf blue Morris featured in Mini Magazine this month which has the painted grille (but not a painted roof!).

Re: Super deluxe roof and grille
I think that NO Super Deluxe models left the factory with contrasting roof colours as standard and that ALL Morris versions would have had a chrome grille, the painted grille having been dropped prior to Super Deluxe introduction (in around 1963?).
Don't confuse the Super Deluxe with the earlier "Super" which DID have the contrasting roof as well as a unique grille and Cooper type interior trim.

Evening,
Here is what I know : as far as France is concerned, it was very common the dealer to spray a 850 baby roof in Old English White - à la Hopkirk, Monsieur !. It was part of the kind of extra you could obtain when discussing the purchase of a new mini at the main dealers back then. It may have been more common in Paris that in smaller french towns. My dad's friends only owned Minis with contrasting roofs, but just a few were Coopers.
But I understand SDL were only available in plain colours.
Cheers,
Etienne

What was fashionable ? Mini Cooper or R8 Gordini depending where you come from, and later Alpine and some NSU, or some Simca Rallye, but that is in the early seventies. In '64, you had to have a mini as Hopkirk's 33EJB. No escape.
