hi looking for info on NZ super deluxe????
Hi my name is john I live in Australia and have a 2000 John Cooper Limited Edition S Works, a 1969 Morris mini K with a replica 1070 motor I also have a 1963 Austin mini from New Zealand which I believe to be a Super Deluxe. It is this car that I am seeking some information on, I am trying to find any sales brochures relating to model designations and trim/accessories fitted ex factory. The car is fitted with Cooper front and rear bars, heater, carpets Cooper tri gauge instrument cluster, full cooper wheel trims. the seats are grey speckle with spanish red borders.
Re: hi looking for info on NZ super deluxe????
Hi,
If the car was NZ assembled, it will be a "Deluxe". This model offered just a few more items and was regarded as being more upmarket. The basic model had fixed rear side windows, no overiders or bars, no rear ashtrays, painted fuel cap, single speedo instrument and there are a few more I can't think of right now. Heaters were NZ made Natra units and a 20 pound extra for all.
Regards
Al

Is that John H from Vic?
I'm not sure about the details for NZ assembled cars. But if it was a UK built car that travelled to Aus via NZ, then it sounds exactly like a Super-Deluxe. By late 62 there was only two trim-specs in the non-Cooper Minis - the basic trim (forgot the official name) and the Super-Deluxe with the features you describe.
My wife's ex-UK 66 is a Super-Deluxe and I have the original sales brochure supplied when it was purchased new. From memory it does not give much detail. But I can dig it out and check if it helps.
Cheers,

How you describe the car does sound like a NZ deluxe as Al says. I've owned a couple from that era and that same spec trim.
Would be hard pushed to find a NZ sales brochure for one but good luck. Photos?

Re: hi looking for info on NZ super deluxe????
if Al and Steve G agree that it is an NZ deluxe, were ADF trying to replicate the English Super Deluxe? as it also has the Cooper square tag ashtrays front and rear, the full onepiece wheel trims, carpets and opening rear windows. One other thing that has me intrigued is that the external body seam flanges have been neatly finished/matched and no seam covers. This is definitely a NZ CKD car which left Longbridge 18/1/63 registered NZ 8/5/63. will try and upload some pics later
Re: hi looking for info on NZ super deluxe????
So far as I know, all NZ assembled cars had seam covers. One unusual feature (originally Austin assembly I think) was that the seam covers were pop rivetted on, one at either end and one in the middle. I don't recall ever seeing an NZ assembled car with anything other than loop-pile carpet and full wheel trims were fitted to deluxes. Ashtrays were regular Mini I think, three on the deluxe and one in the basic.

There were no NZ Mk1 sales brochures, UK ones were used.
