Overheating advice needed. FRESH ENGINE

Hi All

Bit puzzelled on this one. Fresh 1310 engine just been fitted to mk1 cooper s but cant keep it cool.

Car fitted with ported head with new std S valves etc. New head gasket and water pump 74 deg thermostat. Radiator has been serviced 13 lbs cap. Car runs a Weber 45 and extractors. Timing and fuel seem ok. Compression 175 psi on all 4

Car starts spot on and drives very well but after 10-15 minutes of driving the temperature steadily climbs up to 90-100 deg c. Dont know what else to check? Any ideas please?

Been told tight engine may cause heat?
seeping head gasket? But not over pressurizing system.
blocked water ways in head or block?
Too much compression ratio?

Check that the yellow cooling fan is on the right way round. Took me a while to click when I had the same problem. Temp usually hovers around 90 degrees. Good luck. Mark

I bet it's the timing. The fan the wrong way should still cause sufficient flow to cool a correctly set up engine.

check the gauge telling real temps

run a blank plate and no thermostat, and as higher pressure rad cap as you can find.

I had overheating issues with a tight, freshly rebuilt MG Metro engine some years back. Once it had loosened up it was no longer a problem.

1. Checked fan it is on the right way
2. Will recheck timing
3. Yes checked gauge. It is reading spot on.

You can see why i'm confused????

Is your rad up to spec?
