Read it and weep.
In amongst a job lot of Mini related paperwork, books, etc that I purchased recently I found an old 1974 Downton sales invoice for a MK 3 S.
So I thought I'd scan it and share it with you. Like I said, Read it and weep.
The genuine invoice is a nice thing to have, but would be even nicer for the present owner of the S, if it still survives.
If that being the case and the present owner feels the need to add to his / her documented history of the S then PM me.
Hmm, it won't upload. May have to convert it or something else.

That's a great document, but it makes me feel old, I used to pay those sort of prices!
By the way, it told me it wouldn't download, but when I got rid of the message telling me that, it appeared!

So not major bucks for a full engine job and ancillaries from the best in the business back then ? Having said that Downton had alot of competition , even locally, by the early 70's !

Nice find!
Is it OK for me to add it to the Downton archive on the main MK1 site?

Re: Read it and weep.
in the mid 1970's i purchased from richard longman, because i was running out of new parts and ideas the following: complete race engine and trans (all new) with the cyl head that he offset and angled the valves, sccr all sincro trans, lsd, steel flywheel, 3 into 1 headers, megaphone exhaust pipe, split webers, smith chrono tach and drive, alloy front calipers, mini fin alum drums,hi los, swedish rear bump stops, adjustable lower arms and the adjustable pieces that control castor, rear camber adjusters and some stuff i can't remember for $2500 us.i still might have the receipt.that's a lot of stuff for not a lot money even then.all this stuff was new to us who raced in the usa as we only read about these parts in ccc magazine.were still racing the same mini 41 years after its build.
