Re: Gearbox Identification
The 22G 1832 came out at the beginning of 1973.
Should have a small Idler bearing and yes, it is a pre A+.
1982 was when the A+ gearboxes started appearing.
Not sure what it's off though, sorry.

Re: Gearbox Identification
These boxes where used in basically all Mini's between 1973 and about 1980ish (there where some intermediate casings before the change over to A+ was completed). What is the number on the laygear? 22G927 or 22G1040?

Re: Gearbox Identification
DAM5626 is a rod change A+ gearbox and has a 3 bolt bearing retainer which is stronger than than it's predecessor DAM2866.
The 5626 appeared about 1984 and was fitted to just about every Mini from there on, i think.
Oh, and the 5626 box had a stronger idler housing as well.

Re: Gearbox Identification
The DAM5626 is the very latest A+ type gearbox.
DAM2886 is basically for A type gears but A+ type drop gears. It's one of those casings used during the change-over from A to A+. In terms of DAM casings, there are also the DAM4818 and DAM3220. All of these three are replaced by the DAM5626.
