Period photos, John Rhodes, Abingdon, 998 Cooper
I just thought you'd like to see these. A chap recently sent them to me. The first is John Rhodes Cooper Car Compay race car at Snetterton in 1966. The second is AJB 44B at Abingdon and the last is the chaps own 998 Cooper race car. Enjoy.

Great pics, thanks for sharing (has he got any more ??) That's the very first incarnation of a CCC Gp 5 car , AJB seems to missing an exhaust, and for a fleeting moment I thought that Tweed car was Mark's Speedwell 'S' !

Very nice pictures, thank you indeed for sharing them.
Yes Pete, Stilltime has very interesting photos among their huge collection !
But I have always found difficult to extract the most interesting ones. I was looking for pictures of the 1964 Coupe des Alpes a friend told me they had - I had rough low def' versions - but to no avail. Contact by mail was friendly, but they arguably couldn't help me ... Their collection is HUGE.
But I have just discovered their new site and BINGO, found those pictures of the Ecurie Mediterrannée team, all running Cooper and S : hereafter a selection (among them is 1028 CE 13 - Francis Tomas - he didn't finish the Coupe but he still finished third at the French National Tourism championship, first mini, using this 1071S and later my own 1275S) :

Look closely and you can see British Leyland logos on the door of the lorry. The pics must be around 1968-70 then?Pete wrote:Great pics, thanks for sharing (has he got any more ??) Yes I don't think it's '66 anyway as D1's weren't out until mid '67 and the set on that 'S' look quite well used. I'd agree it'd probably be Special Tuning at the turn of the 60's.

Looks like 1969 to me judging from the colour of the tax disc on the 'S'. (blue/white)

By the way for those that may be intersted I've done an article on Cooper Car Company racing Minis in January's Mini Cooper Register magazine with a heap of previously unprinted photographs.

Hello Pete,

Copies of the MCR magazine can be purchased here :
http://www.minicooper.org/main_pages/magazine.htm
Cheaper to join the club though, they're all a good read.
Next mag is out in a few days, my Cooper Car Co article will be out at the beginning of January.
