Le Mans Classic 2010 10-11th July

Post by Etienne B. »

Hi all,

Glad to be back on Mark's new forum, thanks again Mark for running this wonderful site. ;)

I remember Mark once asked us which Historic Racing venue might be nice to spectate in France this summer.
I am going to Le Mans Classic in two or so weeks, 10 & 11th July, hopefully with the S.
Will there be any MK1 forum member there ? Could be great to meet up aroud a beer or two.

I should also visit Le Puy Notre Dame Grand Prix Retro on July 25th : it is a very friendly pre-war meeting, mostly for cyclecars and motorbikes, with a very strong English contingent attending. Nothing Minis, but a nice day full of R40 fumes !
Le Puy Notre Dame is near Saumur in the Loire Valley, it is a beautiful village surronded by wine plants ...
A link to the grand Prix retrto site here : http://grandprixretro.canalblog.com/

Cheers

You're very wrong, I much appreciate your car being a Mini enthusiast myself.

If it wasn't for the opportunity to drive the "D" Type down on behalf of my friend the owner (who is flying down) I would have taken a Mini.

The Haldyne Special is something to see and hear. Due to fuel consumption - some 30 gallons an hour - the owner, Robin, will be trailering the car down but using around Le Mans.

I am sure we will meet up.

Kind regards,

Mike

I've planned to be there, but I've to change my plans due to my job who "forces" me to take holidays during this period. I'll be in Italy with child and wife.

Have fun, and take some pics !

Mike, are they replicas or the real Mc Coy?

The 'D' Type is an early Lynx Replica based on the mechanical's from Ringo Starr's 'E' Type.

Don't know the provenance of the 196 but has been confirmed by Ferrari that the engine was from a later Dino but built by their Racing Department.

The body is by Fantuzzi but age of chassis is not determined.

Thanks Tim,
But you must be warned my S looks better in pictures than in real life !
It is a beast ! It totally lacks the precious and delicate feeling of beautiful early minis ...

They are both excellent choice for going to Le Mans ! Have a nice week end.

My mate Wil Ker set off with his wife Susie this morning.

He's driving down with some of his mates, some of whom are off the Turbo Minis forum in what has to be one of the most "unique" kit car Minis ever made

The Sabre Sprint

If anyone on here sees it say hello to Wil from me.

it actually looks far better 'in the flesh' and is a very very well made solid car.

when you in it its like a cross between a mini and a metro, very quite and smooth

with the 1000 turbo is quite quick as well.

will does insist on calling it a sprint to annoy mark and me!
