How do Gents

Where I've put self tappers through the floor etc on my car to hold the P clips the reverse side now has the sharp point of a self tapper sticking out.

What is the done way to cover the thread to stop cutting yourself or someone else and make it look tidier?

File the point off now it done its job. I would also give each one a good smearing of grease, especially where it comes through the panel, keep the water out of the now exposed metal.

If you want to cover the threads up, how about cutting lengths off washer tubing and winding that onto the screw? I think vehicle wiring producvts do washer tubing in black too. Or go to your local model car place and get some silicon tubing that they use for 'nitro' fuel pipe and cut that to lengths..

Yeah, me too. I cut some rubber tubing and push it oin the screw. On heater/choke cable ends, I push on some fine clear plastic tubing and that saves some nasty injuries too.

I agree with coop. You should only use self tappers where the point doesn't show, like to hold the head lamp bowls in. If you are using them on the floor or other flat areas use pop rivets. If you don't, the first time you skewer yourself your feel a right prat.
