chassis number
Hi,
I have a 1964 Morris 850 mini but I don't have a chassis plate and in the papers of the car there are just 6 numbers. no letters. plate is missing from the front panel and the only number is the FE number near radiator. it si FE809225
I also found one more number the front left floor but is hard to determine what are the letters. I think L or E562975
Is there a way to get to the chassis number so I can ask for the BMH certificate and restore this mini properly. many thanks
Filip

Re: chassis number
Lilihip your chassis number should read M-A2S4- then your six digits for a Mk1 Morris 850. Your FE number would suggest it was built last 1/4 of '64 most likely late November '64.

Re: chassis number
Austin is MA2S7.
Morris is MA2S4
If left hand drive, the above is followed by L
Then the 6 digits.
On my 64 Morris, I didn't know if it was a Morris or Austin. No markings and the Swedish title didn't have it. I had only the 6 digits on the right triangle brace. The chaps at Heritage were very helpful. For £5 they sent an email with all the information (no documents for that price) including the body number on the slam panel.

Thank you all for your help!
Nevsmini - indeed, my mini is I think December 1964 . BTW is this correct? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Mk1_wiper_motor1.jpg
Frogeye61 - that is very good to know. Who should I contact to get this information? I found this contact - Email: enquiries@heritage-motor-centre.co.uk

Re: chassis number
Simon - in my papers it says that it is 1964 car. I contacted heritage motor center with all the numbers of my mini and hopefully they will track it in their database. I will keep you all updated
cheers,
Filip

Re: Chassis number
How did you do that Simon? I received a reply from heritage center and they told me my mini is from January 1965. They also told me that it is a LHD Tartan red Morris version.Simon776 wrote:Your FE Number is from late January 1965.the only number is the FE number near radiator. it si FE809225
I cleaned a block to see if there is an engine number and I found this. I don't get it..

Re: chassis number
Years of research into FE Numbers. How did you do that Simon?
Your engine number looks like 8AM-U-H886682 which is an 850 number from 1965. I would not be surprised if it does not match what Heritage told you as I think it probably from later in 1965.
It may be that the engine has been rebuilt or for some countries it was necessary to have the number stamped into the block so the metal tag was removed.
