I thought it might be useful to dig up this old thread on the myths regarding the 1071 engines that was started on the mk1, mk1 forum : http://www.atfreeforum.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=2000
Recently I managed to find a block for my own mini but I was surprised to find a extra letter on the outside of the block. ( Many, many thanks to Oliver, Christiaan, Bart and Nick for helping me out on obtaining it! )
Here are some pictures of it as it is now:
What I've never seen before is the extra letter B near the opening for the dipstick.
Caps are also number with an E:
Any body got any details on this?

The caps are not the originall,s and they are the wrong bolts .
Does the block have a dry sump pump hole and the little boss for the 1071 tag on back ?

there is a little boss to mount the tag on the back, no hole for the dry sump pump and I do have correct bolts for the block, these are just the ones that came with it.
What type of engine would the caps belong to then?

Hello
The blocks not a very early one then , should have a number starting with C stamped by water pump . I would guess between C 1300 and C 2500.
Caps are off a late 1275 s block , probably a thick flange one .

The block is meant for my august 63 built S. So it doesn't have to be that early I guess. However I have never seen the letter B cast in before. Will have to check to see if there are any numbers near the water pump.
