Year of production

Post by nickacb »

Hello, I just bought a nice morris Mk1, and I have noticed in other forums that the number plate can give a hint of the production year of the car, could some one tell what was the production year of KFO 9O6

thanx

It was registered in June 1960 according to the DVLA, though the actual car could have been made earlier than this :)

You can apply for a Heritage Certificate (various levels now), which will give you the information you want, or if you post the FE number (plate spot welded above the radiator shroud on the inner wing) someone may post the approximate build date for you

You can also write to the DVLA themselves and ask for a history trace. They will send you copies of the information they have on record.

Most of the "FO" registrations were issued as "age related" registrations and my guess is that your KFO was a re-issue after the original registration number was sold/lost whatever.

If you want to know right now? then check the boot lock plate ? it has week & year stamped into it, so does wipermotor - doorlocks - switches - fusebox - etc.

Window glass can also be dated.

Thanx all for your answers, the thing is I still dont have it at my reach, but I thought the plate number was a good enough, as in the below post it seemed that the pic was all it took, but probably someone knew the car before

As soon as it gets home i will look as told.

this is ok to a fashion if the car still has original parts.

my mar 62 build has 11-61 wiper motor
3-62 dizzy
12-61 floor start
1-62 switches
9-61 boot catch
fusebox 4 71  this was changed

dynamo 10-61
regulator 2-62

but my october 62 super and nov 62 super deluxe lucas bits are all bang on to the month of manufacture

my oct 59 car has wiper motor dated 6-59 while the switches and ancillaries are sept 59

always a good guide but caqnt be trusted as accurate in my experience
for my sins,i own a 1957 wolsleley 1500

Early brake drums are date stamped too. The youngest one on my Traveller was only a fortnight old when the car was assembled.

Here's one of them before I had them skimmed.

Probably July 1960.

Then you should check the FE Number again because 64105 is later than 27 June 1960.

As your car has an age related registration it could have undergone the miracle of resurrection to be plate raped.

Well someone said according to DVLA it was registered in june, so I don't know how registrations worked in UK but maybe it was registered within the following days, form the 28th to the 30th of june.

Thanx you all, know I got some certainty that my car was built somewhere between the last days of june.

Your FE Number is later than June 1960 i.e. after its date of registration.

Got it Simon, I should check the FE number again. But in case it is correct, and it was magically registered before it was built, how does it compromise the authenticity of its V5 or the car itself? should i doubt of being a reasonably orginal car?

thanx
