Electrical problem for the technical minded

Having a strange leccy issue with lights on the 8 port

When i fire it up, all is well, give it a rev and the headlamps just come on - to turn them off you have to either just flash the full beam or turn the light switch on and off then everything is ok

Ive tried 3 different steering column switches and no joy there

what do you think could be causing this ??
