Dunlop R7 tyres

I just got a new set for my racer! any tips on suspension settings or pressures to run them at? I normally run Hosiers that use very little camber and 24 lbs. pressure.

I did not know how new these R7 tyres are as we are the only two to use them! They look like a good road tyre, not too wide with a nice tread pattern and a vintage look. I would guess a good road pressure would be 28 rear and 30 front as the side wall seems a bit soft and a bit more pressure may help. I plan to use a 5 inch rim that may also help to give more support.

I tend to run at 32 / 30 when doing trackdays ect, and 30 / 28 on the road, its only my preference and I'm sure the people who race properly will have a much better idea of pressures

I would tend to do it the other way round, has as you heat the tyres up the air expands, after a race in the mights on a warm day the pressures would rise by 4 to 5 psi.

I've now done 1000 miles on a set of R7's and they are a pretty good tyre in most respects but I am wondering if they are going to wear too quickly to be a good road option. They certainly look the part and they hang on really well. I'm running 28 front and 26 rear but I have a feeling that I could possibly drop that 2 psi all round on the track.

When i ran them on the Mk3 1293, i flattened a full set in less than 6000kays (3750 miles) when i was using the car as a daily driver that just worked out to expensive even though R7's are about 3/4s the price of A008s locally.

I now use A008s for the road.

I ran them @ 28 psi front and back on the recent Minis to Monte and the grip was very good.

In the mountains where they were worked hard tyre life was not so good - the run back up main roads didn't seem to take much of a toll but after a shade over 3000 miles there isn't much life left in them.

Probably a great tyre for those who cover a 1000 miles a year and think a pootle to Beaulieu once a year an arduous journey.

Forgot to say that they were on 5" x 10" Minilites rather than 4½".

I ran the R7s at 28 psi cold for my last race and they showed less wear than the Hoosiers I normally use but the grip was not as good. I would say they handle like a OO8 and give a great period look (good road tyre).

The bit that I'm interested in there is your comment that it's a "good road tyre"
BUT
What is it like as a competition tyre?

Wear rate doesn't bother me overmuch as long as it lasts an event AND is good in the wet. If it doesn't perform then am I better with the D93J..........for tarmac rallies.
