The bulb on the end of the stalk does not blink while all the turn signal lights outside blink just fine. The car is freshly wired, and since the wiring was mouse eaten I don't know if the problem was there when I bought the car. The car is a '65 with the original dated switch I would like to retain. If the problem is in the switch I would like to at least retain the metal casting with the date on it.
The little bulb does light up ok, it just doesn't blink. It is also warm to the touch.

Re: turn signal switch problem
Hi,
I had the same trouble with my '64 Cooper S,
which I cleared with changing the flasher unit with a brand new unit (item # 25 on post september '64 BMC wiring diagram).
I would try this first, given your bulb apparently lightens up.
Regards,
Etienne

Does the bulb light constantly? or constantly only when the turn signal is applied?olddad wrote:

If the latter, do the turn lights flash?
The indicator is switched (powered) by the third pin on the flasher unit. Normally this should flash when the turn lights flash, regardless of which side is flashing.

The bulb lights up constantly only when the turn signal is applied, otherwise it is off.
The turn lights blink fine.
I'm going to try another flasher unit post haste.

I had this as well, everything on the outside working fine but nothing happening on the stalk, that was also the flasher unit, the third pin feeds the stalk light independently of the two that feed the bulbs in the indicators

Re: turn signal switch problem
Changed out the flasher unit and all is hunkydory. Wish everything would fix for $4.00
Thanks to all.
