hearing damage in a mini
well after checking noise levels at work around 83-85 decibles and issuing all the correct safety gear, thought i measure the sound inside the 8 port at a good rate of nots
my meter peaks at 120 decibels and the reading was over this
according to my h&s this is more than enough to cause permanent hearing damage and it actually does cause physical pain
be careful guys !!

Too late for me I'm afraid. Spent too many years sitting in shells cutting chunks out with an angle grinder. I'm already well on the way to being deaf.

And a geared timing 'chain' assembly adds to the flavour

Ear plugs are so 20th century..
Noise cancelling head phones are the go. Cuts all the ambient noise, gear whine, exhaust wind roar etc while allowing you to hear the radio..and sirens, warning bells etc..
Cheers, Ian

As an hse inspector this discussion would bring a tear to a glass eye! If only all were so sensible. ....

Slightly off topuc I know, but I've often wondered how many employers are going to get stuffed with claims for hearing loss when really the cause is the massive stereo and loud exhaust their employee had in the past.

If the government get their way & impose a 40 mph speed limit on rural A-roads with bends & 20 or 30 mph on country lanes (the best roads for a Mini), we won't be able to open the throttle enough to suffer any significant hearing damage.

Re: hearing damage in a mini
they did that up here - put 30 mph signs up so we followed a copper home one night - not a nats whisker under 50 did he do
Anyway - scum pikeys nicked all the signs so back to 100 mph national speed limit is it ??
