DVD of the Works Minis In Abingdon 2017 - (Mini Cooper Register).
"This unique DVD is the film of the gathering of twenty Ex-Works Minis at Abingdon in 2017. The collection of these rare and exciting cars was assembled at a private meeting over a weekend at Abingdon in summer 2017, their place of birth. It is very unlikely that such a gathering will ever happen again and it was probably the largest collection of Ex-Works Minis ever to be assembled together in one place. This was the brainchild of John McIntosh who more or less singlehandedly put this together.
Personalities from the great Abingdon Works day were also in attendance including Stuart Turner, Bill Price, Peter Browning, Paddy Hopkirk, Paul Easter, Willy Cave, Christabel Carlisle, John Rhodes and Mike Wood all of whom entertained the owners and guests with talks and an active question and answer forum.
Each car was discussed, charting its history and achievements but it was not just a static show, as many of the cars stretched their legs on an adjacent airfield and the sight and sound of the Works Minis being driven hard was a delight.
All of this is recorded on this unique DVD and is available now from the MCR shop."
£8.00 plus postage/packing, see direct link to the DVD below:-

That Abingdon Airfield event was very well prepared & presented with the Works Cars driven into Abingdon to converge outside those ex works buildings .

To mention that some of those Works Cars (could be even more with the Historic Marathon Group also attending )..they will be at the Gaydon BMC/Leyland Day on 13th July 2025. where the organisers intend to celebrate 70 years of the setting up of the BMC Competitions Department ..
should be a good day out .

A few non works Minis died to make a few of those! Why the owners of the real ones put up with the fakers and the fakes absolutely baffles me, always has and I’m constantly told to shut up about it.
I’ve had at three influential fakers at the top of the red and white tree try and convince me that it’s better to have them on the road being used and admired (‘them’ referring to the fake ones built from nothing more than a logbook application form) than not have them in existence at all. Me I think the total opposite, what makes the real ones special is that they survived and that should be celebrated. I see nothing to celebrate about fakery.

Are you planning to visit the Gaydon event on 13th July ? The organisers' have put a great deal of effort into planning the event and it would be a shame if you could not be there.

To be absolutely & totally honest Pete I don't think there is ONE original works car of any make in existence anywhere (not just BMC, Ford, Talbot, Subaru etc.). Every event they competed on I think they got wrecked and were rebuilt afterwards. Exchange control regulations in the 1960s were tight (I was involved at the time) and we now understand that chassis & number plates were "moved" to get through customs checks.

Yep we all know that Cliff and it’s a totally different subject.

To be totally clear (I think I always have been clear but eh…🤷🏼‍♂️ ) I’m just talking about those cars built 25 years later no doubt with the aid of the chassis numbers listed in Brownings book to apply for a logbook for a car you don’t actually own (possibly owned by someone else - and that has happened) Not just rally cars of course it’s been done with racing cars aswell. I’m not referring to anything else, not reshells, not restorations, not numberplate swaps in period yadda yadda yadda but invariably the smoke screen that usually gets put up is “well the works swapped number plates about” .
Please don’t confuse the two, a car built by Comps that left the gates of Abingdon into private ownership is a works car no matter what the number plate said (if it actually had one). A car built by Joe Bloggs in 1992 by fraudulently applying for a works logbook to stick on his rally Mini definitely ISN’T and plenty of people did exactly that who have been peddling bullshit about what they created and try and shut down conversation about it ever since.

That’s it in a nutshell Cliff. I totally respect and admire the whole BMC Comps story and the amazing effort, skill and knowledge put into rebuilding those cars (anyone who thinks different clearly doesn’t know me at all) but the bullshit that’s been going on for decades I can’t swallow and dont forget the owners of genuine survivors who’ve had to fight tooth and nail to get their number plates back from the scam cars, often with zero help from the very people who are supposedly there to help, some even involved in fraud cars themselves! You couldn’t make it up.

I think Robert is working on his website and may not have uploaded the images from 2017. It looks like the archive stops at 2001.
Why not contact him through the website contact section as I am sure he will locate the images quickly.

Agree with the above comments re the Works Cars ( of whatever manufacture) .. But can i ask do any of these Works Cars have the original ( Brown or Green ) Logbook with the first Owner showing as the MG Car Company .. including the First Road Tax Stamp that would have been issued at first registration in Reading .. now that document would /should/ maybe/ ok perhaps not .. be proof that there is an Original "Works Car Log Book" even if todays car is something other?

See you there 8-)
