Bonnet safety catch

Advice needed please. When putting the assembly into the bonnet tabs, how do you line up the catch and pin against the pressure of the spring?
There must be a trick to itm which I cannot fathom.

Patience, David is now known as an age thing! :lol: I assume you mean the locking mechanism. Mine took ages but the answer is to leave the grille off for access to the mechanism.

I assembled mine so that first, disconnected the spring. Then assembled it so that it was quite loose and gently lowered the bonnet so that the 'acorn' part was able to move the landing platform parts. This centered the lower parts to suit the bonnet 'acorn' part. Released bonnet, gently lifted it up. Still perfectly aligned, tightened up and gave it a couple of dry runs then attached the spring.

Adjust the height of the threaded acorn part so that bonnet shuts with a slight pressure then lock up with the lock nut.

And while you're there, the next job is the most important bit of mini maintenance you can ever do..........

CHECK AND GREASE UP THE SECONDARY BONNET LOCKING MECHANISM. Cost if you do, 50pence. Cost if you don't and it fails, £500
