Cooper S Block and Speedo Value

Post by Kiwi Craig »

What is the approx value of a Mk1 Cooper S block in the UK?

It is an AEG 312 thin flange +40 thou, has the bearing caps, not much else, no crank.
Has been stored waxed and wrapped. Still has hone hatch marks on bores.

Also the value of a Mk1 Cooper S 120 mph Speedo. Has numbers SN 4417/18 1280?

Brand new blocks have really kicked the value of original stuff.

30 years ago most S cranks were junk - full of cracks, reground 40 thou plus and that sort of nonsense. Just door stops/paperweights.

The scale on the speedo should actually go up to 130 mph yet the face will only have 120 on it. It's a 970/1275 S speedo for cars built from October 64 onwards and is for the optional 3.44 diff ratio. Value depends entirely on condition, so without any pics it's hard to say

I would say the fact the bits are in New Zealand might have some impact on value as well.

I agree with Simon……prices are not what they were.
Although recently considered, I currently wouldn’t sell any of my stash of S engine parts…..blocks, heads, cranks etc. While ever I own a Cooper S they are good spares to have. I’m sure most other owners are feeling the same. Don’t really know if this is the best attitude to have…..and what effect it has on the market ??
