speedo bulbs
Hello.
I am having a problem with the bulb holders for main beam, gen light etc coming loose/dropping off the back of the speedo.
Is there a recognised replacement that anyone would care to recommend.
They are simply too old.
Thank you
BR

Re: speedo bulbs
I've never known them get "too old". I have a couple of 1950s cars with those bulb holders and they've never given any problem at all. The ones I have had trouble with have always been new ones fitted to a replacement loom If that is the case with your car I wouldn't be surprised at all.
Best to get some original ones in that case.

Re: speedo bulbs
Can't you just bend the springs that run around the outer circumference a bit to ensure that they grip the rear socket part of the instrument.

Sounds like a plan Peter especially as "Bend It" was I think a 1966 song after the Monte lighting fiasco. Wasn't there a slogan that Minis rule the bends back when I was a lad.

Dave Dee,Dozy,Beaky,Mick and Tich. One of the most succesful bands of the 60's.They purchased cars from Wessex Motors New Street Salisbury
(later Henlys) My early working days.Dave Dee bought a Silver Cloud 3,Tich a DB4. When Dave Dee arrived to view the Rolls Frank Moules the RR
salesman had no idea who he was and thought there was no way this scruffy guy could afford one.None of them bought a mini .Only Beaky is
still with us from the original band.Great guys.

Thank you all for your creative responses.
The sping clip comes out of the plastic backing. and leaves itself in the back of the speedo.
I will talk to Nick Rogers.
Thank you

Re: speedo bulbs
I find the plastic bulb holders on new wiring looms can be a poor fit in original speedos.
Ive been known to cut them off and solder the original metal bulb holders onto the new loom.

Re: speedo bulbs
Hi Again.
I have just seen the Wood and Picket ad for a speedo wiring loom and wonder whether it would make my jobeasier if I
used the mate-n-lock connector type approach.
I have used the thinking for the removal the original benelite grill from the car when working in that area.
Thanks for your idaes, the claw retaining clip stuck in the back of the speedo and then upon removal fled towards the subframe at the back of the
engine never to be seen again.
