Cleaning K&N Filter

So whats the easiest way to clean one of these without buying the K&N cleaning products and oil .

Personally I've always used standard thinners to clean the filter and re-oiled with genuine KN oil.

I've just cleaned and re-oiled my filter with the proper K&N stuff - spray cleaner and spray on oil. Picked up the box with both in together at a Mini show for under £10 if I remember correctly. It worked well and there is plenty of both left to do the filter on my modern car too.
