Bumper quiz

Post by ronie »

Hello.

I would like your opinion on the rear bumper of the Beach Car.

The one that was on the car is in terrible condition and cannot be saved. It seems to be the original one, as it is a little bit different than the Elf/Hornet one.

I have acquired 2 rear Elf/Hornet bumpers. Not exactly the same as the original, but in much much better condition.

My main concern is the position of the holes for the bumper bolts. Both the original bumper and the Elf one have 6 holes, but only 2 of them are on the same spot.

Logically the holes on the original bumper are the correct ones, and I should copy those onto the new bumpers, but the 2 central holes are impossibly close to the license plate lamps. It doesn't seem right. The bumper bolts have been welded on to the bumper and generally it is really abused.

What do you think?

I would decrome the Elf bumper. weld extra holes and drill the ones you need and then send everything for rechroming.

After a long talk with a panel beating friend, I will have the original bumper "ironed", repaired and chromed.

I am also having a replica made from fresh sheet metal.
