Power in KW of standard Starter Motor ?

A title, anyone know what the standard power is ?

Just trying to weigh up the benefit of changing to a new "high Power" version to speed up cranking - but need to know what a good standard one should produce.

All electrics test as ok, so just down to the SM

I can't answer the question but I can speak from experience. On the MGA we swapped the standard starter for a Wosp high torque and it does definitely crank faster and starts a lot better. Cold start is still a bit of challenge but it doesn't struggle to turn over like it used to...

I have two of these .. on a non-verto flywheel , and not only they can crank faster as well as for longer time without draining battery .

They are basically an Honda Civic starter , and if you have access to a machinist/lathe .. you can build one for a cheap amount .

I’ve done a bit of searching and the Lucas M35 type starter is rated around 0.8kw which is equivalent to 1hp

Running a standard starter motor on a high compression engine and they just sound slow and strained…this one is pretty new as well…

0.8KW for an OEM one back in the day, so a reliable 1KW or even 1.6KW,(its a bit dear though ) could be worth while.

" Ran out of Petrol ".. what to do as blocking the road ( bad bend on a hill ) unable to push the car with a Dead Engine & no other to help Push ...Solution stick it in 2nd Gear then Ride the Clutch while you turn the engine over with the Starter Motor .. the Car will move a good distance just using the standard Lucas Starter Motor in 100% Electric Drive ..has worked for me on more than one past occasion without any long term consequence

Bit the bullet (and fed up with dicking about with old starter motors..) and ordered the 1.6KW starter motor(£25 quid off at the moment)

Big Cheer for Minispares it arrived in 20 hours, so will fit later

EDIT: massive difference so far, lighter, easy to fit, engine spins over much faster, lets hope it continues

also noticed, looks like you can actually ditch the solenoid if you want to and connect the ignition starter wire straight to the starter motor rather than the solenoid.
