Le Mans Classic

Post by tintoptom »

Hi all

Anyone going to the classic this year? I've never been and am considering a bit of a road trip (I live in West Sussex so it's pretty easy!).

Anyone got any tips on good routes / places of interest to think about for to out or return journey... I was considering doing a Portsmouth to Cherbourg crossing and then the 3+ hour drive over to Le Mans as it looks as if we'll be traveling on the Friday night or Saturday morning and returning Sunday evening.

Any thoughts?

I've not been for a few years, but it is an amazing weekend. No matter how you get their, Do go, you'll love it.

Portsmouth to caen (overnight) is the crossing with the shortest road milage, but it's an easy enough drive from Calais. we used to go from Rosyth (edinburgh) to Zeebruge - long drive to LM!

It used to be worth stopping at the old pits at Ruoen, but they may have been demolished?

5 of my pals are heading down from Edinburgh, but sadly I only get shore leave for one 'boys weekend away' a year, and I use that for the revival. LMC would be the other option, and i'll return when my eldest is old enough to come with mme.

GpC cars should be amazing this year, so Enjoy!

Thanks Al

Did you buy tickets through the main website - or from somewhere else?

Yep - really looking forward to the GpCs!! Just been glancing back through Laurent Nivalle's amazing photos from 2 years ago, really inspiring:

I will be going as I do every other year. Portsmouth to Cherbourg is the quickest route and then its motorway all the way. There is half a dozen of us and we are camping at a Chateau about 10 miles from Le Mans. It has nice facilities including a nice big pool.
We always stop at Honfleur for lunch on the way back, its beautiful, and very close to the port.. 8-)

Thought they were putting on some Grp C action (to celebrate 30 years of the formula)...

hmmmm... may have got that bit confused with the events planned for Silverstone this year.
