Hello everyone!
I could not get her into first and second gears at times, so bleed the slave cylinder to get me home. went OK for a while but problem started returning. Anyroad I bough a slave cylinder repair kit and fitted it. But there did not seam to be a problem there, it was the copper brake pipe going from slave to master cylinder that was loose, removing its pipe form the slave cylinder I found it to be a couple of perished plastic bushes, anyway I replaced the whole thing with new pipe and longer male nipple so now the thing compresses and is tight!
I have tried to refit the slave cylinder back on to the bell housing, but I can not get the rod to go inside the slave cylinder. The bar that it is attached to is far to tight to move. And I can not get the spring to go back on either! again to tight (please see photos attached)

There should be a flexible rubber pipe between the clutch master and slave cylinder, NOT a rigid copper pipe as shown in your photo. The engine/gearbox unit is mounted on rubber mountings to allow it to move slightly....therefore your rigid metal pipe will fracture/break at some point soon!
You also appear to have the wrong clutch slave cylinder which is for the later Verto type clutch and is probably the reason the rod and spring are proving difficult to fit...
You need to confirm what type of clutch you have (Verto or pre-Verto?) and then use all the correct matching parts for the type you have. The clutch arm in your photo is the long type which indicates pre-Verto clutch assuming the correct one is fitted....but to further confuse matters you have a Metro.

And if your system is full of fluid you will have to loosen the bleed nipple to push the piston down in the cylinder.

Welcome To The Forum .. Mab is on the case with Felx pipe needed .. then take the stuff apart ..remove the clevis pin take out the clutch arm & check its all good & the push rod clevis is free & not too worn ..Screw in the clutch arm "Stop bolt".. the re - assemble you should be able to have the Slave Cyl Fitted on the Bellhousing & then rebuild the Push Rod & Clutch Arm back into position with a bit of a push to allow for the internal spring within the Slave Cylinder. .

is that why the clutch arm is so stiff that I can not move it? and hence cant get the rod or spring in place?

Sorry I am now confused! Your saying its the clutch arm stop bolt that is stopping me move the arm and hence putting the rod and spring back in place? Do I really need to remove the entire arm just to get the rod and spring back on? The clutch arm is stiff because it has to compress a great big spring to make the clutch disengage. You arent strong enough to operate it without the help of the hydraulic cylinder, so you have to fit the cylinder to the arm before you bolt it down.
Once you have the correct cylinder, gently press the pushrod on the end of the clutch arm into the end of the cylinder to slide the piston inside it back. You may need to release the bleed screw, but you should be able to push the fluid back into the clutch master cylinder. That should give you clearance to insert the bolts and attach the cylinder to the clutch housing.
