Bootbadge fixing hole dimensions wanted.
odd request .. can anyone tell me info regards the mk2 Rear Cooper S Bootbadge .. i need the hole centers "distance" between whatever pins that secure the boot badge onto the boot lid.. then ask is there any difference on the mk2 Bootbadge between the Morris & Austin Cooper S and if so .. can i ask for the "Dimension" between the pins securing of both types of Morris & the Austin badges onto the bootlid.. you help would be appreciated.
Have never owned a Mk2 so dunno what a Mk2 Cooper S Bootbadge mounting looks like

Re: Bootbadge fixing hole dimensions wanted.
I can only help with the second part, Austin and Morris. The pin holes between the Austin and Morris are identical in both types. That's because both bezels are identical front and back. The rear also applies to the little 998 Cooper too. Not sure about the fronts because the shape differs. But I suspect that the pin holes are the same.
Insofar as the pin distances,B beware. Some of the repro bezel pins aren't the same distances as the originals

Re: Bootbadge fixing hole dimensions wanted.
Thanks Peter for your good info . . i have purchased a late period mk1/ early mk2 Aluminium Bootlid with a range of Badge fixing Holes present where its evident someone has displayed mk1 Austin & also mk1 Morris Cooper S badges .. some holes still with the Mouse Condom type fillings still present .. then other holes that i assume could be Mk2 Badge Holes hence my odd question asking the Forum for mk2 Cooper S Badge securing pin dimensions for mk2 "S"badge mounting .. or any info that would prove what differing Badges once lived on this Bootlid would be good as i try to trace past history of this Bootlid.
Re: Bootbadge fixing hole dimensions wanted.
I think all the alloy boot lids were drilled for mk 2 badges.
My alloy boot had the badge holes welded up when I bought it, but it still had the holes for the engine size badge. When I removed the skin from the alloy frame the welds were clearly visible on the inside.

Re: Bootbadge fixing hole dimensions wanted.
Thanks Imac .. for your Bootlid photo with the back off .. good info.. Plus i can now see what those cluster of Pop Rivets are doing in the corners of the number plate indent .. They are holding the internal back up plate for the Number Plate Hinges .. had thought someone had done a bodge on my Bootlid but NO..then you cleared up two further holes that the 1275 Badge fits into .. another 2 questions answered without needing to ask

Plus the remains of a very old Leather Strap .. the Bootlock Lock is dated 1963.
Any further info would be appreciated.

Re: Bootbadge fixing hole dimensions wanted.
I think (from previous 'alloy panel' posts on here) that all these alloy panels were produced in around 1969 in only very small numbers.
My matching alloy bonnet is a mk2 item, drilled for a mk2 badge and having a mk2 grille trim mounting lip.
My boot lid had also had a strap fitted, along with two on the bonnet.

Re: Bootbadge fixing hole dimensions wanted.
Hi, Can I please ask what badge/s fit in the four holes directly below the boot handle.
Have been trying to work it out, my MK1 shell went off for sand blasting and spraying
with two holes in a brand new boot lid & I failed to notice for ages that it came with
four holes.
Re: Bootbadge fixing hole dimensions wanted.
I'd not previously noticed that the holes in polarsilvers bood lid don't actually look right for a mk2, the centre 2 holes are too widely spaced for a mk2 badge, they also don't appear to be central to the boot handle. I wonder if mk2 holes have been welded up or filled?
I re-drilled what I'd presumed to be welded up factory made holes in my boot lid for my mk2 badge.
I think all mk2 model badges fit the same badge hole pattern.
Looks like polarsilvers boot has been drilled for a mk1 Austin Cooper S script.

Re: Bootbadge fixing hole dimensions wanted.
This is an image of my modified boot lid after bare metal strip. Almost certain it was a Mk1 boot lid originally which has had many extra holes drilled. Just noticed 2 x 4 holes and 2 x diagonal S holes.
You can also see that number plate section has been welded up and the additional vertical holes each side were for surface mounted reversing lights.

Re: Bootbadge fixing hole dimensions wanted.
Looked again at this Alloy Bootlid there are Ten Holes drilled for the various differing Bootbadge (s) some have blanking off with a Pop Rivet plus there are then other Holes for the sloping" S .. seems someone in the past had a Reason to fit either the mk1 Morris Cooper & Austin Cooper S Boot Badges .. then further updated this Bootlid with another 4x holes for the mk2 Bootbadge ?
The inner Bootlid back skin was covered up with the mk1 Cardboard Black trim to hide over the rear mk2 double skin
Before i remove any of the Patina ..can i ask when did Special Tuning first list their Alloy.mk1/ m2 Bootlid for sale ?

Re: Bootbadge fixing hole dimensions wanted.
Not sure if it helps but our rally car had an alloy boot early in its life (around '69) and that had Mk1 Morris Cooper badges on it.
Re: Bootbadge fixing hole dimensions wanted.
Did mk1 minis ever have the double skinned boot lid from the factory? I've seen 5 alloy boot lids including mine on the Web, and they've all been of the double skinned variety, indicating to me, mk2. I've searched on here, but haven't been able to find the threads that had the info regarding when these panels were produced, but I'm certain int was about 1969. The person I bought my boot and bonnet from purchased them in 1969 but then had to remove them in the early 70's when they were banned from his class of racing, and thed hung in his garage ever since. The engine size badge holes looked factory produced on my boot lid as did the bonnet badge holes which were perfectly aligned for a mk2 badge.
I've only ever seen a couple of alloy bonnets, but they've both been mk2 versions. A ST alloy bonnet skin sold on ebay a few years ago, I can't remember if that was drilled for a bonnet badge.

Re: Bootbadge fixing hole dimensions wanted.
They pressed these ally skins at Swindon in the hey vday of BMC and special tuning of course and the bloke heading the project was a bloke called Ray Neave and his pal who's name I forget (I'll ask Ray when I see him next but he is very old now...). It wasn't simple and the ally wasn't as forgiving as steel. They learned their lessons with the MGB bonnets and especially with the first ally MGC bonnets that it seems just weren't capable of accepting even further stretching. I never heard talk of Mk2 bonnets but it'd be a simple conversion I would imagine
Have they been reproduced since? He did obtain a couple of ally door skins for our modsports Midget.
Please feel free to correct me and I'll speak to Ray next time I go through Shrivenham

Re: Bootbadge fixing hole dimensions wanted.
They also pressed alloy bonnets in Llanelli plant once on a while. There were quite a few 'rejects' that found their way onto friends cars in the area. A NOS alloy bonnet and boot without any holes turned up in Llandeilo not so long ago, and sold locally. I was hoping to get them but was pipped to the post.imack wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 12:47 pm Did mk1 minis ever have the double skinned boot lid from the factory?
