Clutch Slave Cylinder bracket

Post by Bob46320 »

Mk 4 A+ engine with Verto clutch (I think as the actuator arm is short).

I lost clutch movement and couldn't change gear without crashing. The slave cylinder was leaking fluid, so replaced it, still no movement, so cleaned and replaced master cylinder seals (the old seals were clogged with rust etc). Now got movement but not enough!

I got my wife to pump the pedal and it was obvious that the slave support bracket was bending and the angle of entry of the CLUTCH PUSH ROD was about 30 degrees alignment to the axis of the slave cylinder - see photo. When I took it all apart again, I noticed that the bracket is attached with 2 x 9/16" UNC bolts and that there is a hole in the lower part of the bracket drilled for 1/4" bolt and that the bell housing has a 1/4 UNF boss somewhere near it but impossible to use it.

I measured the angle between the top of the plate and the lower section where the cylinder bolts onto as 137degree. Can anyone tell me what it should be and should the bracket be supported by the 2 x 9/16 bolts and the lower 1/4" bolt.

Thanks for that Mab, it makes a bit more sense now. It looks like that spacer is about 1 inch long, so I will "adjust" the bracket (Because I believe it is bent), accordingly.

Please accept my crappy marked up photo of the missing spacer and angle of the support bracket.
