I was sent these fantastic pictures of Broadspeed cars taken at Crystal Palace in May 1964. They were sent in by Evan Gamblin who has very kindly agreed to me posting them here.
If anyone has any further info on the cars or this meeting I would be very interested in hearing.
Great Photos.. We all want our cars to be "Original" but most forget that todays Driver also needs to wear a Long Sleeve White Shirt & Tie to complete the image
Wow, great photos! This was the Small Car Trophy race at Crystal Palace in May '64. Rhodes' car is in the top photo, Ralph' Broad's is car 81 with the winning Broadspeed of Handley behind. The first engine bay is Fitz's CCC car, then Rhodes' CCC engine bay. Nice to see what oily works race car engine bays actually looked like! Non of the bling you find on the 'recreated' ones!
This was the third round of the championship to feature the new 1275 engines but the winning Broadspeed of Handley here was still listed as a 1071! Any chance of copies of these Mark?
Very interesting stuff, I love the period shots. I am currently reading John Baggot's Mini 'The Racing Story', where the drivers' above are referenced.
Excellent - thanks Pete. Excellent quality photos which gives plenty of detail.
The shots of the engine bay are from a different day by the looks of it seeing how dirty the front wings and Cooper Car rose petals are compared to the other photo.
Was the 'TEAM BROADSPEED' front wing sticker only on the off side or does #81 not have any applied do you think?
