Have a 71 early GT. Purchased it fully restored. Chap that restored it had restored various classic minis over time. The GT was done as I tribute to the Australian GTS with GTS decals twin fuel tanks ect. Original GTSs were around 70 bhp so to achieve this it had a ADO16 set up from a 1300gt .since I had it it's never run good, down on power no matter what I did and terrible to start from cold. So eventually put into a good classic garage. Turned out both tanks had muck in bottom so it couldn't get the fuel it needed. That problem had been there a while apparently as some one had adjusted both hs2 carb floats to try to get more fuel, of course that was only over fuelling it making it very reluctant to start from cold. Anyway both tanks removed cleaned out fuel lines and carbs cleaned new floats adjusted correctly and rolling roaded. It's a rocket now achieving 72bhp. Sorted

Well done. Sometimes it is something (relatively) simple causing these problems :) Hope you'll properly enjoy it now!

I will enjoy. Very nice to know its running perfectly now. Won't be much use for rest of this year, Getting ready for winter storage with stabil added. Fitted a standard CSI distributor with 16 pre-set curves selected curve 11 after some trials and road tests, No pinking No issues with cold strarting Goes like a jack rabbit.

The GTS was south African and had different stripes to the Australian Clubman GT . The Australian Clubman GT was based on the Australian Mk2 Cooper S with them being mechanically the same, both fitted with twin tanks, twin 1.25 Sus, close ratio boxes and 7.5 disc brakes and both engines being of 78BHP
