Sliding Into Danger - (A Castrol Film)
Release Date: 1st January 1969
Synopsis: This is an instructional film teaching the viewer how to drive safely in adverse conditions including snow, ice, fog, frost, mud and sand.

Shotlist:
"Commentary by Ronald Priestly; chief instructor of the British School of Motoring. The film opens with a man driving a Mini, putting on car stereo. View inside and outside car. Car crashes. Sequence with newspapers on fire and shots of crashed cars; cars driving through snowy towns and on ice. 00:05:39 - cars practising skid control rear wheel slide. This footage shows the viewer how to correctly control skidding due to dangerous road conditions - there is a lot of footage of this. NB The film is shaky and poor at the beginning (the print not the camera work)."

You might be able to spot some continuity errors in the Mini part of the film....

Wet autumn leaves brings back memories of my first over correction and I must admit to trying my skills in a local car park when it had snowed; honest my Dad told me I should. Who remembers the BSM High Perfomance Course at Brands Hatch. What about skid pan training? Hornchurch and Bovingdon are still there in my memory from the 1960s. A40 and A35 (A series engines?)
Have a great weekend.

Sideways in the snow for ‘training’ was how I suspect most of learned to drive back in the days would happily let you get them sideways.

Nothing about front wheel drive I note. I did spot pretty good panel fit on the mini doors ;-)
