Lombard RAC Rally Mini returns to the stages

Post by mab01uk »

"In 1981, traffic cop Thomas Bradley was chasing the ultimate dream - to drive a rally car on the biggest rally in the world, the Lombard RAC Rally.
Borrowing the entry fee and scraping together enough budget to fuel the car for the adventure, Tom, codriver Peter Allworthy and a small crew of friends headed to Bath to follow in the wheel tracks of legends.
The rally couldn’t have been more gruelling, taking its toll on the car and the crew, and getting to the end of the first day the Mini’s clutch called enough.
22 stages in, the car and crew were in pieces. The dream was over. 𝗨𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗹 𝗻𝗼𝘄…
43 years on, aged 77, Tom is looking to settle the score, as he and his trusty Group 1 Mini GT are heading back into some of the stages which featured on the Lombard RAC back in the eighties as they take on the Anglo Caledonian Rally.
Tom will be joined on his reprised Mini Adventure this November by codriver Nick Wilkins. The car is in the finest fettle of its life and the driver is an inspiration to most 50 somethings, let alone someone approaching their 80s!
Tom’s honest and heartwarming appraisal of the journey so far will have you smiling from ear-to-ear. It was a real privilege to tell Tom’s story, and to get behind the wheel of this feisty little British Leyland icon."

Tom & Nick will be awesome on the event as Nick has suggested using sign language to the 77 year old driver, about the same age as his Dad and has no idea what notes are. Tom was a speed cop so I am confused about "notes". Seriously this is a team to be proud of and follow on the event. Go for it TOM & NICK.

It's actually the Anglo Caledonian Rally not the Lombard RAC Rally. An alternate event to the Roger Albert Clark Rally and is based in the Borders.

For clarification the Mini was entered for the Lombard RAC Rally Mini in 1980 and 'returns to the stages' 43 years on for the Anglo Caledonian Rally, using some of the stages which featured on the Lombard RAC back in the eighties.
