Dive flange to paint or not to paint ? ?

Should the the splined drive flange for the the front hubs be painted or not ? The flat surface where the wheel mounts.

I have some black paint on the flat surface to prevent rust.

Started thinking that the paint may give an incorrect torque for the wheels.

The brakes are the 7.5 " disc's for the Cooper S

Thinking on my feet Jak, I don't think that it'll make any difference to the wheel nut torque figures if there's a thin layer of paint. I'd just use a spray on heat resisting paint

I agree with Peter, just make sure you have the correct nuts.
My car had the wrong ones fitted when I bought it, the wheels were loose but nuts were tight I changed the nuts and studs to be safe.

I will use a thin layer of paint for protection from rust. The car will not see our winters nor salt on the roads.

I simply coat the drive flange in a thin smear of grease or copperslip. This can be wiped off and reapplied if needed, but won't crack and flake off like paint will.

I tend to spend a lot of time detailing small parts. I'm currently prepping the suspension for the Blue car. It just happens to be running vented disc cut down to fit inside KAD four piston calipers and 10 inch wheels. Being 8.4 disc vented they are attached to drive flange with metric hardware. I tape the seal area, both friction areas and the drive flange face and paint inside and out. That is a no to the flange face. Running aluminum wheels I coat flange face with Dow #5 parting compound for dissimilar materials. It is a silicone paste to prevent reaction between the different materials. Steve (CTR)
PS while wire brushing the calipers on electric wire wheel I noticed small sparks at point of contact. They are large with the spacer for vented disc and with pads a little less than 3 lbs. A set of MSC billet calipers no pads just over 4lbs.
