Another happy mini anniversary story
We are celebrating our 41st wedding anniversary with our mini at a local street show this evening. I got the car for her to learn to drive in 1979.
When we kept arguing and parting as boyfriend and girlfriend it was always a mini problem that would bring me around to my 'ex' girlfriend's house to fix it. Inevitably we kept getting back together as a result. So, if it were not for our 'Bette' mini, we may never have got married at all!
The wax oil I put in after some welding and repaint repairs in 1980 seems to have worked, despite the oversills being fitted at that time
I thought I'd share our story with the forum whilst I still can - as you'll all no doubt understand that whilst the car is far from perfect, it is a long term part of our life together

I prefer cars that are far from perfect. They actually get used.AndyPen wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 9:27 am We are celebrating our 41st wedding anniversary with our mini at a local street show this evening. I got the car for her to learn to drive in 1979.

While we like our cars go be 'right' it's great to see
long term ownership with love of the car taking precedence over concern about any potential sale value.
Lovely story.

Yes I am a nerd: I am researching the Austrian Mini-racing scene of the 60s and 70s

Well what an evening it turned out to be. I let the organisers know our story and lo and behold the Mayor and the Lady Lord Sheriff, accompanied by the local councillor turned up with a great bouquet of flowers.
My wife was a little taken aback by all the attention and the car had many admirers too.
Still grinning

Yep, another great mini story. Hopefully, these little snippets will be able to continue in some form in the future

Andy, you do know that every vote counts .. question is would you have worn a Tie if you had known
similar story here with my 997 Cooper that i owned for 50years .. then girl friend ( married 53 years ) hit the back of a Lotus Cortina back in the day ( 997 Brakes ) so it got a Flip front until i could afford to get the body repair .. years later did the full restoration with professional repaint .. problem was i was not satisfied with that Paint Job, so sold the car from this Forum .. this year at a BMC day at Gaydon my late car was there looking good just as it should, i spoke to the owner who was quite happy with his car .. other than me who should not have sold it .. whatever good times as the money went into a Moke.

Re: Another happy mini anniversary story
What a great story, I've still got the car that I was using as my daily, (not a Mini), when I met my wife, 20 years of marriage for us this year
