I'm sure many of you will have seen the news that Stig Blomqvist is competing on this years Cambrian rally in a Mini which is great news for the sport and the event as a whole. I notice one of the partners is Mini Spares, would anyone know who at MS would have brokered the deal?
Here's the press release..

Re: Stig Blomqvist in a Mini
Link above does not seem to be working so re-posted below.
STIG BLOMQVIST TO ENTER CAMBRIAN RALLY
"RALLYING legend Stig Blomqvist will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of his 1984 World Rally Championship win by competing on October’s Visit Conwy Cambrian Rally.
The popular Swedish driver will be in a specially prepared 1964 Mini Cooper S sponsored by Mini Spares Centre, in association with BMW/ Mini, for his only competitive rally outing in the UK this year. His co-driver will be Paul Morris, whose knowledge of the North Wales Forests will doubtless enable Stig to demonstrate his prowess to the full.
The Mini Cooper has been built by Soderquist Engineering in Sweden working in collaboration with A Series expert Phil Anning of Anning’s Race and Restoration and is based on the 2020 Monte Carlo Rally Mini driven by Rauno Aaltonen, and after recently testing the same specification engine, Stig was said to be very impressed by its’ power and tractability."

Re: Stig Blomqvist in a Mini
Totally agree but I am almost certain that the engine in the Mk3 is very similar to the 1964 car which is being prepared. If you look carefully at the press release the Mini has a roof light Artistic licence ! Looking forward to seeing the 1964 car and how it performs. Minispares also supported Rauno's Mini on a recent Monte Historique.

Ah I didn’t realise, hats off to them there. It’s interesting and an unusual choice to do a forest event now in a Mini, especially with the lack of gravel Tyres. I presume using SP44’s?

There is also a FB page https://www.facebook.com/CambrianRally/
Do hope he does well, he’s got a decent engine and good sponsors.

Re: Stig Blomqvist in a Mini
I'd be far more interested to see him drive a Saab 96 V4 again. Google the 1971 RAC rally and see how he made it fly - he was up against the 200+ bhp Escort RS1600's and a FWD Saab Slug with the cast iron V4 boat anchor pretty much handed everyone their arse on a silver platter.

Re: Stig Blomqvist in a Mini
The Stig entry was put together by Ian Hunt and Phil Anning who has the strong Minispares connection.
