Recently I have got a Bosch SU12R coil and no complaints so far. They also sell the SU12 for non-ballast systems.
Does that mean the coil failed?

No I swapped from my standard 3ohm coil to a 1.5ohm

All still working fine & I keep it in the boot as a backup
