Speedo cable rotation

Post by davidmuir »

Hi,
What way does the speedo drive i.e. cable end, rotate? Think speedo needs a hand to get over 78000. Probably wear in female bit on speedo due to loose cable!!
Thanks

It rotates in the same direction that the needle rotates.

You're asking about the odometer, not the speedo right?

If the speedo still reads but the odometer is stuck then the problem is with the odometer barrel. They get clagged up with dirt and dust then jam up. I send the unit out to a local company who clean, test and refit the assembly.

Tried doing one myself once, doable but very fiddly. I much prefer paying an expert to do this job.

The odometer part is all a mechanical gear train. The most common fault is the tiny little claw on the eccentric operating lever has worn away and won't click - or rotate the initial rotor. That, followed by clag in that part of the mechanism as Kiwi Minibits says

Not the sort of thing that you're likely to have in your box of spare parts.
