hi
is the rotor in place or the cap cracked either can be the problem coil could have died or points earthing out fuse maybe not right
there are all sort of frustrating things that can stop the infernal combustion engine just keep trying

Did you try all the suggestions in your other thread?

Like I mentioned before it’s easier if you keep all your questions in one location so people can see what the whole story is and what you’ve tried

Does it run with a different fuel source sprayed down the carb?

Setting the timing within the ballpark to start is pretty simple:
Turn the engine over till it’s on one of the marks before TDC (like 5 degrees)
Make sure the rotor is pointing at number 1 cylinder and the valves/rocker arms are in the right spot for #1
Turn the distributor so the points are just opening
At this point it should start

Alternatively, get someone to help you crank the engine over and slowly rotate the distributor till it starts. There should be a fairly wide window of timing where it will start

Coil perhaps?

I couldn't get mine to start, after fiddling around for ages, decided to take off the 4 year old good quality coil (less than 500 miles) and put on an old 20 year old one I had sitting around and it fired up straight away!
