Factory mk1 Mk2 recliners

Post by dazibee »

Hi. I'm after some new seats. Currently got 80s Corbeau buckets which are really comfy but you need to shoe horn yourself behind the wheel. I want to make my car more usable and slide in and out. Looking at Newton Commercial Mk2 recliner replicas. Can anyone advise any pros and cons and whether these seats are comfortable? Cheers

Are ANY original seats comfortable Daz.......? My friend has Newton replica recliners that are far more comfortable than the originals but that's because they are new and firm. But as for being comfortable enough for a non stop drive to Carlisle. Well, that's another matter.

Yep, Newton recliners for me any time. We ought to support these manufacturers who support us is my mantra

I agree with Peter, but also to add that whereas the standard non recliners have a quite uncomfortable (for me) rake, the recliner's give you that degree of adjustability and higher back support...

Just about to fit my new Newton recliners :D

I think there are too many variables in play for a seat to be defined generically as "comfortable". Your own physical size/shape/posture/"padding" will have a a lot do do with it. What might be comfortable for one person might be a nightmare for another. Your suspension setup is another factor coming into play. It's one of these things where just sitting on one in someones car doesn't really tell you much. I find the standard seats in my Mk2 perfectly fine however it's on hydro and I weigh as much as a packet of crisps :D

Good points. My modern Bini standard seats are rock hard. My current Corbeau buckets in my classic mini are great except for needing a crane to hoist me in and out. I drove a 4 hour round trip at the weekend and didn't have back ache or a numb ass. Yep agreed we are all different shapes and sizes too. I also have a brand new set of Corbeau classic Alpines which I can't get along with. I'm 13 stone, do weights, eat pizzas, feels like I'm sat on top of the seat not in it. Hopefully the newton cooper recliners will be just the ticket

Love my original recliners compared to the standard fitment seats. Mine have the original padding and have the right amount of support for me at 5'7" 150lb. On hydro so I may be biased.

OK good feedback on factory recliners so far. I would also consider the microcell recliner which look similar but their website has been saying available soon for ages
