Last thing to be removed.
Manual says (1) use bearing puller or (2) rest bearing on vice jaws and “hit” shaft to loosen shaft from bearing.
I tried (2) without success, yet.
Last time I used a bearing puller I broke the bearing puller!
Suggestions would be appreciated.

Two leg puller normally does the trick, failing that fit the gear & bearing back into the case and refit the circlip. Then use a slide hammer attached to the thread and slide the opposite way than for bearing/gear removal to push the gear from the bearing.

I suppose that you have tried heat. I'd play a flame around the outer edge of the race and let the balls take the heat into/onto the inner race. It's only got to enlarge the inner race diameter by, say, .00050" and your copper mallet will free it.
If you were very clever and had a fine flame, you could play the flame onto the balls directly whlle you rotate the outer race - to do the same job.
The temperatures we're talking about will make no difference to the structure of the bearing if you want to re-use it.

Assuming the bearing attached to the 3SYNCHRO first motion gear is an original(2A3709) with a metal cage then small amount of heat is an option as a last resort. Would not use this method if fitted with a plastic cage though for obvious reasons

I remove them by placing the shaft between the blocks on the press, with the bearing sitting on top of them, then pressing them off. I' have done them with a two leg puller, but it's the type that the legs are fixed in position on a H beam, the more common types I find the legs slip off too easy.
Another way using a puller would be to use one that has a bearing separator.

I hold the bearing in my left hand and hit the end of the shaft with a copper hammer.
Done it hundreds of times and never damaged anything. The bearing always comes off.

All’s well that ends well!
Rested bearing on top of vice, placed small socket on end of shaft and hit with hammer.
I did put wd-40 on the shaft for some time first.
Bearing finally did come off.
Now to check if I have all the springs, balls and detent plugs.
