So 30th April 64 shift A ?
What was the casting of the block to finished car lead time for a late April 64 block, would the block have been machined, engine built & car completed by late May, May 27th 64 to be precise ?

Without any data to support. I'd say easily.
With hundreds of cars being finished each day you would be well advised to keep the supply chain as short and lean as possible.
Perhaps not quite as slick as today, but the same principals existed then as now, WIP has to be paid for.
My last engine program was circa 15 years ago now, we were building 2000 engines a day from the No1 plant here in the uk. and we took that up to 1M annually globally with several local assembly sites.

Generally speaking the lead times were 4-7 weeks prior to car assembly dates. There were exceptions but that's an average.

There seems to be some evidence that some took longer to be used ( maybe re-work or just bad stock rotation…) this was 1960s manufacturing….

The other early thin flange block I have is 4 E 4 D, so 4/05/64, shift D ?
