Pedal heights
Looking for measurements of a MK2 Cooper S clutch and brake pedals.
Mine are 4.6"/120mm & 5.3 "/140mm respectively measured from the Toe board without carpets. Can anyone measure theirs for me please.
I'm looking for as many replies as possible to come up with an average height.. Cheers

I've got my pedal box assembly out at the moment - due back in this afternoon - and the question is: how do I adjust the height of the pedal if it ain't right? Or do you just live with it?

The height of the pedals from the toe board is solely dependant on the m/cylinder pushrod lengths. If you have the correct length p/rods fitted you'll find the clevis pins or bolts should be parallel to each other at rest. A difference of 2mm p/rod length can change the pedal pad height by 10mm.

I wondered about that Bob but thought that there must be a way. But obviously not!
That said and thinking about longevity, I wonder if there's another interchangeable m/cylinder, identical except for the length of the pushrod. If so, it'd be keeping the old S pushrod. Or am I barking up the wrong tree

My car arrived with both cylinders apart. My old brain said the longer (of the two) pushrod went with the brake master so that's how I put it back, and wanted to make sure that the "standard" height and difference in height was accurate. The car is just being assembled but not yet drivable. Slightly off topic, but I have seen that there is an adjustable pushrod for the clutch master to be able to adjust the slack in the travel of the pedal. Does anyone here have any information on this?

If you do a direct comparison between a mk1 drum brake pedal and the early Cooper S pedal the difference in pad height is 13mmThank you Bob. No, I saw a picture from the underside of the dashboard where the owner mounted an adjustable rod for the mc clutch. There is a bit of travel in the pedal before the pressure builds up..

That would be one hell of a job, to adjust a master cylinder push rod to suit the brake pedal. Because the pedal box would have to be fitted to do this. And there's barely enough room to even insert the clevis and split pins.

I'm sure I have some in the draw, I'll snap off a pic next time I remember.
Ideally, you want the pushrod set as such that with your hoof off the pedal, there's about a 1/8" gap between the underside of the pedal and the edge of the bulkhead. I'm sure you're on to it, but if the pedal rests on the bulkhead rather than 'hang off' the pedal, the brakes come on all by themselves while driving and will get to the point of locking
Many many years ago I thought I'd be clever and make up an adjustable pushrod for the Master, I can't recall now why, however, when I shoved my head to have a look, I very quickly binned that idea !
I did see a chap in the US modify his masters so the pushrod was no longer captive by the circlip. The pushrods were then fitted to the pedals and the Masters fitted over the top. Anytime he had to remove the masters, there was no need to remove the clevis pins. The pushrods for this should be made a wee bit longer though, as the pedal will now rest on the bulkhead and be that wee bit lower, so you don't want the pushrods falling out of the bore of the masters.

I am referring to the clutch push rod. It was adjustable, the lower part of the rod was mounted as original to the pedal but the rod itself was two-part with threads and a matching sleeve including a lock nut. Wonder if such a modification has the right of life...
