Mini Superfin Brake Drums

I'm looking for a pair of Mini Superfin drums (with the built in spacer) to put on the front as I want something lighter and better cooling than the original drums along with not wanting a large separate spacer when I fit the Mini Spares rose petals. However, there seems to be a difference in price across the Mini suppliers for these.

Mini Sport are looking for £123 + postage for a set but mention they are manufactured in the UK resulting in better quality along with being lighter and more fins (20) for better cooling - https://www.minisport.com/alloy-superfi ... drums.html

Huddersfield Spares have the same amount of fins on theirs but available at £80 + postage - https://www.minispares-online.co.uk/all ... ssic-mini/

Has anyone got any recommendations or any experience with any of these from the different suppliers in terms of quality etc?

I am ashamed to say I did try the Mini Sport ones and found them OK.

Since that time, Mini Spares released their version, I've bought and used loads of them and found them excellent. 2 of the Mokes we took across the Simpson had these too and they stood up way better than the other 2 that had Cast Iron drums on.

I wouldn't let the number of fins sway you - these don't get particularly hot and will all dissipate that small amount of heat better than the cast versions.
I'd be interested in why MiniSpares badge there's as a budget type.

Minispares also used to sell the “genuine” superfin drums that had the brand name on them, which were about double the price of the budget ones

Hi,

Many years ago Minispares had two different types of minifin in list. At the beginning I bought and used the "budget" type and a couple of years later I bought also the "normal" type.
At that time the budget type were around 50GBP and the normal type was around 100GBP. I used them on a Inno Cooper mk3
I noticed a great difference in the quality, in my experience it was really easier to regulate and balance the normal type compared with the budget alloy drum.

I really don't know if they change their provider for the budget type during the years....

I am guessing all the ones apart from Mini Sport's are imported from the same location if they are all around similar pricing. I've enquired with Mini Spares to see why they are labelled as 'Budget Type'...

Received a quick reply back from Mini Spares and posted below for anyone interested in why they are labelled "budget type"

The original MiniFins with built in spacer was the Superfin, but these doubled in price over night and then became difficult to find due to our supplier having issues with the manufacturer, so we produced the MINIFINS with built in spacer at a better price, hence budget type. We no longer sell the SUPERFINS as the price was too high. Both work in the same way.

I believe that without the Rose Petal spacers the wheels will foul on the cooling fins of the drum, so you may still need to use the wheel spacer - or use cast iron drums…

They do foul on Minifins. In fact they foul on cast drums too.

I have the small spacers that come with the Rose Petals I will be fitting. I just didn't want the thick spacer separate from the drum and wanted a lighter version.
