Re: 1960 / 70's Mini Racing Photos
This was a competitive car of John Cannadine (Team Speedwell) LMF 617C. Started life in OEW/ Black and I’d never seen a colour photo of it until today when I found this one on EBay, yellow with a green stripe! One of a fantastic collection of colour slides, Minty is in the background in one of them in Newtune colours (grey/maroon) but I’ve still yet to find a single decent colour photo. One day….
Another of the Don Moore car WER 850 which I now know was Speedwell Blue!

Trying to research more history of my car as I'm lacking pictures from due to the main photographers selling off their archives. However, stumbling across this in the Mini 7 club archive section was a nice surprise. Leading the field at the 1969 Brands Hatch Mini Festival.

The Mini 7 club archive section of their 'Pit & Paddock' magazines is a really good source of old photos.

Re: 1960 / 70's Mini Racing Photos
“ Allen Cylinder head” was that a Gordon Allen Cylinder head or a BDA (BDG) ?
Either way looks right and “Period” ……not one for engine swaps normally but always thought Ford BDA (G) looks right in a mini, it spawned a fair number of Twin Cam copies as well

Re: 1960 / 70's Mini Racing Photos
I always liked the 'period' engine swaps in Mini racing and rallycross, eg. Mini-Ford, Mini-Imp, etc because they used the Mini gearbox which usually involved some clever Engineering & innovation to mate them together with reasonable power and reliability. The modern engine swaps like dropping in a Honda Vtec engine/box complete don't have quite the same interest for me.

Re: 1960 / 70's Mini Racing Photos
Yes it was a surprise, it obviously evolved into a FF 850 car (as it remains today) but there is something about an early 7 car. A look mostly unseen today as all the historics run full exterior trim and Rose Petals or Minilites. Which I also love.mab01uk wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2024 11:24 pmA great find for you!BigWig wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2024 3:07 pm Trying to research more history of my car as I'm lacking pictures from due to the main photographers selling off their archives. Thanks very much for the link - I will check this out. Always interesting to see its past life. I have also just joined the Mini 7 club, so hoping there will be an opportunity to look through any photo archives at they might have. Anything I find I will post on here.

Re: 1960 / 70's Mini Racing Photos
Lydden Hill, early 70s.
Peter Vaughan : “If I had made that last 150yds to the line, It would have been a new lap record, & it was wet/raining. Hugh Weldon was running 2nd to me in the race & was just going around the elbow to go up hairy hill, whilst I was going down hairy hill to the finish on my roof. My fault, complete driving error, being too confident got the left front wheel on the grass coming out of the top bend of hairy hill thinking thats ok we will keep it smooth if i keep my foot down pulling approx 8000rpm in 3rd gear then changing into 4th she will pull herself out back onto the tarmac near the bottom steady for the chalk at mabbs. Little did I know that there was a deep ditch covered over by grass and my left front wheel went in it and dragged me over to the left and went up the bank and rolled back onto the circuit and finnished sliding down the track by the entry into the chalk bend at mabbs
All this happened whilst I was flat out in 4th gear, some where between 80 to 100mph. The accident did split the crash helmet on the right side.”

Great photo!
You might also like the photo below with a D.J. Bond connection.
This was the tow car for my brothers 850 Mini racer, a 1964 Mk1 Cortina Estate with Rostyle wheels bought in 1970 for £275 off local Surbiton based race team D.J.Bond who sponsored several race Minis in that era, their signwriting was later removed but we kept it in D.J. Bonds team colour scheme of metallic blue and white. The crankshaft broke a couple of months later but a replacement crank was sourced for £13!

Great shot, from the same meeting as my previous post. Also looks like a Don Parker trailer?
I will have to keep an eye out for that programme.
