speedwell head for 1071 s

Hi all

I'm in a dilemma if to fit my FB34 clubman spec alloy speedwell head to my 1071s motor or sell it on . ?

would it be a direct fit or at most just abit of fettling to fit ?

any advice on if somebody has fitted one would really help .

It's only got 9 studs, so I can't see it fitting a Cooper S block.

I do not have first hand knowledge of these heads but have heard that some can be porous and have other problems that need resolving. I would get it thoroughly checked/tested before considering fitting.

What letters are stamped near the thermostat? The valve sizes look like they are best suited to small bore rather than larger bore, this would definitely be a step back performance wise, would look great though

The main issues with these heads are corrosion, wrecked rocker pillar stud threads and valve guide issues. If a race cam is used, or the valves jam, the guides can spin/move which causes all sorts of issues and is expensive to repair.

I'd stick it on the shelf and fit it to a 998/1100 in the future. Also worth noting is you'll need an exhaust manifold with round ports, I bought mine from good old Maniflow.

Total waste of time a good Speedwell Clubman flows less well than a standard 295.

While you could fit it to a 1071 without any issues at all. You could also remove a couple of pushrods to get a similar change in performance.

They are a great & very interesting head on a small bore but, useless compared to anything large bore.
