Bypass hose inlet

Post by Jasonking »

Can you tell me if the inlet to the head/block for notorious bypass hose rots away? Mine seems way to small, hardly enough for the clamp to grip when fitted?

They can corrode but are screwed in and can be removed and replaced.

Like this .. although it looks a bit on the long side to me .. I've seen shorter ones with a hex machined to allow ease of tightening into head (with suitable thread glue)

Try and get a 12A2075 which is longer. It screws in the head and you might have to take the head off, but if you do that, don't put the squidgy bypass on, use a solid one which will never come off.

If you're taking the head off, block the By-pass off. The thermostats for which these were designed to work with haven't been available since the early 60's. By retaining it, all you are doing is dumping some hot un-cooled 'water' back in to the pump, by-passing the radiator.
